favorite this post want old cell phones dead or alive, for charity (Ann Arbor) hide this posting unhide

I sell on ebay old cell phones donated to Kiwanis rummage sale. I can list yours and donate the sale price to Kiwanis. Ebay does not collect the usual 10% fees for charity sales that are directly donated. You can see my listings under sindikeesan.

If you put old phones in one of those ubiquitous 'phone recycling' boxes, some company collects them for resale and gives 2 cents per phone to the host and then tests the phone, calls it refurbished, maybe replaces the battery, and sells it for a profit. I don't make any personal profit, but Kiwanis gets the $2-10 that they sell for.

I sell mainly feature phones (flip or bar) because people do not donate working smartphones. But even mashed smartphones can fetch $2 plus shipping. Drowned iphones have usable parts. These last two will be sold to someone in Nigeria who can afford to dissect out usable parts because people there make $50/month.

Other small mailable electronics often sell, such as GPS devices, old PDAs, MP3 players, minidisc players, fitness watches - I can try to sell whatever fits a padded mailer. Computer video and sound cards fetch $3 or so.
