Nana's MCM Grosvenor Museum Working Reproduction Roman Oil Lamp - NEW UNUSED
This was found in Nana’s office in one of her filing cabinet drawers. That is where she kept all her family personal papers and small items. This was kept in a plastic bag with the label/flyer that explained a bit more about the lamp.
The lamp itself has no nicks or notches and appears to be in the same condition as the day it was bought. The flyer has a pinhole in the center and was on a corkboard for some time in the past. The circle under the pin feels oily. It is an oil lamp…but the pin has us confused.
With a tiny bit of sleuthing, and after contacting the Grosvenor Museum, we narrowed this item down to the end of the MCM period. It was probably given to Nana by her mother after she visited the U.K. in 1974. Sadly we hoped it was her mothers and used, but being new, and none of the kids ever remembering seeing it, we decided to list it. People keep the things their family used. Sigh. This should become a tradition in someone else’s family.
While researching oil lamps and trying to find a comparable, we learned that this style is very rare. We could not find one other small Roman reproduction lamp with a cherub or angel on it.
This personal miniature working lamp is 2 ½” x 3” x 1” tall. It has one wick hole.
Boxed for shipping, this weighs 15 oz and measures 6” x 3” x 7”.
