Most ash trays from the mid 1900s are pretty bland and boring. Not this one. In fact, it was too artistic to ever be used as an ashtray (fortunately).
From a short distance, the tray looks like an intricately carved piece of wood. But it’s actually resin, which is really durable.
The detail is impressive.
In the inside round ashtray portion are ten scattered bowling pins. On the top lip are two more bowling pins. On the sides are two larger black bowling balls with the three finger holes. On top of those balls are two “lips” for holding cigarettes.
The other square part (I’m not sure what it was designed to hod” is also impressive. The inside of the square is ribbed while the outside has two smaller black bowling balls also with the three holes.
Around the outside edges surrounding the four bowling balls are arch-like designs.
It measures 8 inches long and 4 1/2 inches at its widest point.
It would have been a crime to actually use this ashtray as an ashtray. Luckily, that never happened.
This piece would be great to display on its own or as a functional piece to hold things because of its durability.
