The first of these maps is from AAA. It’s not dated, but based on the fact that the Mackinac Bridge hadn’t been built yet and the style of the car on the cover, it looks like it’s from the late 1940s or very early 1950s. Back then, the 401 was called Highway 2 while the 402 was Highway 22. AAA maps were always known for their huge size and impossible to fold back the right way design. Same with this one.
The Sunoco map is a beautifully lithographed color map from 1966—except for the few 59 year old coffee stains. Again the 401 and 402 weren’t built yet.
The Tourist Map of Canada and the U.S., put out by the Canadian National Railroad, has two dates—one copyright date of 1936 and another reference to visiting Jasper in 1947. 1946 sounds right to me. It’s a very cool map, designed to promote Canadian rail travel afterWW II. On one side is a beautiful color map of Canadian rail routes as well as a few in the Northeast and Michigan. On the other side are photos and tourist info of both the Canadian Maritimes and Western Canada.
