I am selling my personal copies of the "The Simon and Kirby Library" hardcover collections for "Crime" and "Superheroes" by Titan Books. These large format books collect the most popular stories by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby from the 1940s and 50s, gathered from the official archives, fully restored and collected for the first time:
-- Crime (320 pages): Often featuring real-world criminals like Ma Barker, Al Capone, and Pretty Boy Floyd, and true-to-life events like the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, these adventures were torn from post-prohibition headlines. Explosive enough to draw the attention of the congressional committee on juvenile delinquency, they remain action-packed for today's graphic novel audience. Introduction by Max Allan Collins.
-- Superheroes (480 pages): Authorized by both Joe Simon and the estate of Jack Kirby, it collects the duo’s most exciting characters: Fighting American, their cold-war take on the patriotic hero, The Fly, with origins in an unknown Spider-Man prototype, Lancelot Strong, the man with the double life, and the Hollywood swashbuckler known as Stuntman. Introduction by Neil Gaiman.
I received these as gifts long ago, and only read them once, so they are in immaculate condition. There are no bends, creases, or rips to the dust jackets, pages, or the books themselves; the binding is crisp, and the pages show no yellowing. They've been safely stored in a box since I received them, and come from a smoke-free/pet-free home. I'm asking $45 for Superheroes and $40 for Crime, but I'd take $75 for both.
Email with any questions, or to set up a time/place to meet. If this ad is still up, they are still available. Thanks for looking!
