The Heinrich Jordan Textile Co. began in 1839 in Berlin, Germany. The company specialized in making high end fabrics for tropical gear, uniforms, table settings, bedding, and clothing.
Based on some of the information on the inside lid, I’m guessing this bo is from 1900 or 1901.
The box measures 7 1/4 x 5 inches and 2 1/8 inches deep with its original latching hardware
On the top lid is a laquered photo of the company’s photo of the company’s main office on Markgraffen Strassen in Berlin. Part of the upper right corner came off in the past, but it was re-affixed. Also, in the left border the “L” has come off the word Berlin. Neither has any effect on the great graphics.
The inside is in great shape, almost as if it was never
used. The inside bottom of the bottom of the box looks like some lighter wood (balsa?) affixed to a thicker piece of wood.
The inside top lid is very neat, seemingly untouched from over 120 years ago. In the upper left corner of the informational label is a reminder to customers that the company had won a Silver Medal in 1896 and a Gold Medal in 1899. In the upper right corner is another reminder that the company won another national medal in 1898.
In German, the company lists its specialties: washing equipment for women, men and children’s shirts, collars and cuffs.
At the bottom, the company states that it employs over 2000 people.
