In 1891, this newspaper was established in New York City by the Socialist Labor Party. The paper started out being “The
Daily People” in 1900. When it went weekly in 1914, the name was changed to back to the original and eventually to “Weekly People.”
This complete six-page newspaper is in good shape, with the exception on a small hole in the center caused by folding. It’s dated June 27, 1970.
Some of the articles are interesting and reflect the times: the dangers of pollution; how capitalism is filled with corruption; how Mexican-Americans and American workers are being exploited by capitalism; and how the Vietnam War is such a danger to society.
But the real kicker is on the front page, with an amazing picture of a large grimacing skull overlooking a polluted city.
