The Lorillard Tobacco Company began in 1760 in New York. Back then, the company specialized in cigars, pipe tobacco, snuff, and chewing plug tobacco.
Lorillard was bought out by the American Tobacco Company in 1899.
The Green Turtle plug tobacco brand was popular in the late 1800s. Lorillard, along with many other tobacco companies, put lithographed tin tags that could be stuck into a plug of tobacco in order to protect the brand.

As you can see from the photos, the advertising tag is in very good shape for being over 125 years old.
