Before Gerald Ford became our 38th President, he served as a U.S. Congressman from Michigan in the House of Representatives for 25 years. Ford entered politics in 1949 and eventually worked his way up to become the leader of the Republican Party in the House.
This matchbook is probably from the late 50s, early 60s, based on Ford’s photo on the matchbook cover. Above Ford’s photo, at the very top, is written “Experienced.”
On the back is a reminder to Michigan voters that “Jerry Ford Works for You.”
Inside, most of the matches are there.
The matchbook was made by the Grand Rapids Calendar Company.
I’ve only seen one other example and it’s from the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand Rapids, MI.
