Someone much more knowledgeable than me about old photography informed me these nine photos are tintypes, dating somewhere between the 1850s to 1880s. (Many thanks for the info!)

They come in various sizes, the largest being 4 x 2 1/2 inches while the smallest is 1 x 1 1/2 inches.

On the back of the bearded gentleman’s photo is scrawled “Joe Smith.” The middle photo on the top row looks like a dad with his two sons, or three brothers maybe. Check out the hats! The little tyke all decked out looks like he comes from a wealthy family, while the curly headed little girl is posing next to a draped rustic chair. The four smaller ones have very serious poses. No smiling for the camera here. Finally, the last photo shows a woman with kind of a sad expression and a faint mustache.
