Loretto, Michigan, still exists today (around 800 people), located between Marquette and Escanaba, off US 12, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It’s near the Wisconsin border and is in the Central Time Zone.
In 1892, the town was created by the Appleton Mining Co. on an ideal railroad route through the mines between Loretto and Iron Mountain.
The postcard is very neat, sort of three dimensional, with a metal-looking raised horseshoe.
On the back is a note to “Dear Friend Mathilda” and ends with “Your Friend from Loretto, Mich.” Sadly, it was never sent.
As you can see from the photos, the card is in great shape, especially for being over a hundred years old.
