This interesting piece of artwork is the form of a high-end birthday greeting that was mounted on a wall over a century ago. The age can be roughly determined by looking at the back of the frame and the kind of artwork and paints used on the main piece.
The design is a shape of raised flowers (white, orange , blue, brown, purple, and gold leaf) over green leaves—very colorful.
There’s some staining on the borders, but it has no effect on the graphics. Also, some of the glare you see in the photos is from light reflective off the glass of the frame.
The flowers and leaves have a raised, dimensional appearance.
The poem is entitled “Zum Geburtstage,” which roughly translates to “For the Birthday.”
The wood frame looks like a combination of walnut and cherry. Inside, the frame has gold leaf paint to separate the outer frame from the artwork.
It measures 11 1/2 x 13 1/2 while the actual art measures 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches.
