Retail Nursery Manager (Ann Arbor)

compensation: $25k - $35k salaried full-time
The ability to work with people in retail sales is as much a gift as singing or drawing. You either have it or you don't. If you don't have this gift of working with people, stop reading this right now. It's not for you.

Our 20+ year old family-owned, innovative retail nursery and landscape contracting business needs an energetic, creative, fun, organized person with a passion for people, customer service and a love of plants. A love for organization and the patience for those who aren't will help immensely. This is a full-time, salaried position with year-round compensation.

You will need the skills to finish projects, juggle responsibilities, manage and schedule staff, and laugh and breathe rather than scream when all things are crashing around you.

The ability to work through all kinds of weather...and on weekends. This isn't a desk job--you'll be in the nursery, walking and standing most of the time, and outside in ALL types of weather with minimal whining. Plant knowledge is appreciated; love of low-pressure, fast-paced sales (it's plants, people--not computers or vacuums!) to fun, interested, curious customers is essential. You'll need to be organized, task oriented, and have the ability to finish what you start no matter then distractions, interruptions, or time of day--or temperature inside or out!

There are crazy times and slower times. You will need to stay focused when it's crazy, and stay motivated and motivate and manage others (and coordinate projects) when it's slower.

You will be the "go to person" for coordinating delivery and planting of trees and shrubs, and delivery of bulk materials, and walking the tightrope of what is humanly possible and what the customer wants. Know that your co-workers will help with this too!

Our customers are our NUMBER ONE priority. They are loyal, smart, fun and magnificent. They love us; we love them. We are nothing without them. They WILL be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

A solid sense of self, family, and values is imperative.

Of course we use computers. We'd like experience with a POS system and a plant tagging database, but a cautious curiosity and willingness to learn and excel will work just as well.

We believe you cannot be successful in this industry without a strong faith and the ability to ask for and count Blessings. There are Bible verses in our catalog and occasionally on our outdoor sign; and we merrily sell and celebrate Christmas--not a "season" or a "holiday." We are looking for someone who respects these beliefs as well.

This position offers increasing responsibilities, room to grow, respect, a fun, creative, lively environment, great customers, a unique group of co-workers, and homemade cookies with regular frequency. We're looking for someone to put down some roots and stay for a long time.
Is this you? If so please send resume or brief summary of work history as well as one compelling reason why we should hire you.
