Re:Re:Funny How Conservatives Don't Care When
We already have more weapons than we need to defend ourselves, why keep spending money on them?
That's your definition of conservative beliefs, I've never heard it anywhere but from a brain dead lib who is afraid of the truth. Here's a quick fact, conservatives are more charitable than liberals. Charity is the true measure of a person because it isn't forced.
Where did you get that fact from? Or is that just your belief?
We have an obligation in a civilized society to support those who are physically or mentally incapable of caring for themselves.
We have an obligation to give a hand up to those who fall on hard times, short term financial help, job training if they're in a dying industry.
Government, AKA the taxpayers, doesn't have an obligation to provide a lifestyle to anyone.
Ok, then who should follow through on those obligations? You? Are you willing to organize all your conservative friends to help the millions of unemployed people in this country get the job training they need? After all, you guys are very charitable. I'm sure you guys wouldn't mind contributing some money to do that. Now how to organize it.... Remember, government is not allowed. Those are your rules. What other organizations have the capability of helping millions of unemployed people get job training??? Small businesses?
Hmmm, I am pretty sure if an unemployed person walked into a small business and said:
"Hey, I don't have any skills you need at the moment, BUT if you hire me, and then provide me with on the job training I can assure you I would be a model employee"
The hiring manager would say:
"I'm sorry, but it is more in our interest to hire someone who already has the skills we need."
Ok, so small businesses wouldn't work.....
I know! Big business! They have lots of extra cash just laying around. I'm sure they wouldn't mind providing on the job training for millions of people. But wait.... Those are the same big businesses that shipped all the manufacturing jobs overseas where they can pay people pennies a day. Well, maybe they would change their minds if they knew they were doing something charitable to help those less fortunate. (I won't hold my breath)
We shouldn't have to make laws EBT cards can't be used in strip clubs, or casinos.
On that point we agree.
We shouldn't debate drug testing to receive benefits, it's a requirement of nearly every job today. If the left truly believes this is a hand up why the outrage when drug testing is implemented? People won't move from assistance to work if they're using drugs. And I don't like to think taxpayers are sacrificing so others can get high, do you?
I agree with this point as well. But then there is the question of what to do with the people on drugs. Do we deny them any kind of assistance so that they are forced to turn to crime to survive? I'm sure that would make the for profit prison companies pretty happy (and the businesses that use prison labor)
Who do you think should receive help, how much and how long? What restrictions should there be on the use of the money, and drugs? Should those receiving help be required to attend training or welfare to work programs? Should they be required to work for their stipend to keep, or get, them in the habit of being punctual, following instructions and accomplishing assignments?
I also agree with you on this point. If people get government assistance, they should contribute back to society with some kind of work they are capable of doing. For instance, people who are not physically disabled could pick up trash around the community. Single moms could stuff envelopes from home. Even if it is just an hour of work, they should be required to do something.
But, cutting people off from help with no warning, like Congress just recently did, is unfair and just plain wrong. That is not "tough love." It is downright mean spirited. If conservatives are as charitable as you claim, the politicians representing them should be offering to restore the money with the requirement that, from now on, people must do at least some kind of work, no matter how small, to get the benefits. So far, I haven't seen the conservative politicians make that offer, which makes me think they really don't want to help. They'd rather just see people suffer.
