<description><![CDATA[A shelter for families who are homeless in Washtenaw County is looking for 2 or 3 people for Shelter Aide positions.  These positions are responsible for the smooth operation of the shelter and constitutes the first response to emergencies and emergent situations if and when they arise.  The aides are responsible for providing support to residents, volunteers, and other staff; enforcing rules; ensuring that procedures are followed; and monitoring the facilities and grounds for safety and cleanliness.  These positions report to the Shelter Manager and maintain close contact with case managers. Other responsibilities include: assist clients and volunteers with afternoon and evening routines: child supervision, meals, family chores and other activities; provide telephone counseling and information on housing options to families in need of emergency shelter; perform simple janitorial tasks as needed: mopping kitchen floor, bathrooms;  and occasional administrative/computer tasks.<br>
<br>
Qualifications:<br>
<br>
Must possess 1-2 years experience working with homeless or low-income individuals and families.  Strong interpersonal skills; a proven ability to work unsupervised; a history of reliability in the workplace required.   Comfort with being the “rule enforcer” while also being empathic; understanding of challenges of homeless parents and children a must. Previous work experience involving medical or mental health emergencies, children’s services, AND a familiarity with fields of substance abuse and public health preferred.    <br>
<br>
Position Hours<br>
1 Position:  Weekday evenings (Mon. through Friday) 4pm-8:00pm* (20 hours per week)<br>
*  This position could be split into 2 part-time positions<br>
1 Position:  Weekend afternoons (Saturday and Sunday) 3pm-11pm.  (16 hours per week)<br>
