Title: Design and Release Engineer - Seating
Renewable Contract Length: 12 months
Product design release engineer responsible for leading seat continuous improvement and integration activities. Knowledgeable of seats at a deep level. Responsible for seat compliance and performance to GM technical and quality standards throughout the seat's life cycle.
Lead component Product Development Team (PDT) and support sub-system Product Management Teams.
Drive detail design reviews to ensure integration and detail execution meet best practices and quality standards
Ensure PDT timing plans are thorough and accurate, that program timing benchmarks are met.
Root cause test incidents and implement corrective actions within tracking system timing guidelines.
Interface with team members from manufacturing assembly operations, finance, marketing, design, purchasing, occupant safety, validation, harmony and others as necessary to support and execute program imperatives.
Support production launch activities for seats and sub-systems.
Define and implement cost reduction activities to meet organizational goals.
Define and implement quality/warranty preventive actions or improvements to meet organizational goals.
Actively participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design for Assembly (DFA) development activities.
Develop and support test plans including component tests, sled tests, and full vehicle barrier tests
Support/ participate in Vehicle Seat Comfort Process, Appearance Reviews
Required Skills and Experience:
Seat design and integration experience
Problem solving proficiency
Very good oral and written communication skills
Very good interpersonal skills : ability to work within PDT, with Supplier Integrated Team and with the program team
Personal computer application and internet experience (Word, Excel, Power Point, VPN)
Ability to support multiple programs and/or activities
BSME or BSEE (in conjunction with seat complete experience )
Proven program management skills
Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) requirements as it relates to seat design
Experience with DFMEA and DFA
GD&T training and experience
5+ years GM Engineering release process experience
Seat Assembly engineering experience
Knowledge of seat quality assurance processes
Seat foam and trim engineering experience
Knowledge and experience with seat design best practices
Seat launch experience
Occupant performance experience as it relates to seat design
Design for Six Sigma training and experience
Metal and plastic material and tooling knowledge
Creative skills with the willingness to take managed risk
