Infant, Toddler and Preschool Teachers (Ann Arbor)

Gretchen's House Child Care Centers have been providing child development programs for infants through schoolage children in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area for over twenty-five years. We currently serve more than 500 families at seven locations in Ann Arbor, one in Pontiac, and one in Houghton, MI.

Gretchen's House Child Care Centers are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This accreditation is reviewed every five years and is a significant indicator of a high level of quality child care.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
Young children learn by doing! They acquire knowledge of their world through playful interaction with objects and people. Children are motivated to learn by their own desire to make sense of their world.

OUR GOALS
Gretchen's House provides a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children and responds to the needs of families. Our parents and staff are partners, working together to meet the needs of the children and their families.

OUR CURRICULUM
Gretchen's House is a play-based program. Each day children are provided with time for free choices using a variety of materials and spaces. Some activities are teacher planned and guided, but each child chooses which activity, materials, or space he/she wishes to use. We strive to challenge and stimulate each child at his/her own developmental level and foster a positive self-image by accepting each child as an individual. The following elements are part of our regular program for the children.

WHAT SETS US APART FROM OTHER CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS?
• Small group sizes, low staff-to-child ratios, and primary caregivers for each child.
• Small group ("family group") time each day with the primary caregiver.
• Highly-trained and educated teachers.
• Developmentally appropriate curriculum and teaching practices that engage and challenge children and provide many levels of success.
• A daily routine that balances quiet and active play and provides a variety of large-motor experiences.
• Plenty of outdoor play including interest centers and neighborhood walks.
• Field trips (as age-appropriate) approximately once a month.

Current openings include part-time afternoon positions in Infant, Toddler and Preschool classrooms. Applicants must have a minimum of one year experience working with young children. A completed degree in Early Childhood Ediucation is preferred, but not required.

For more information about Gretchen's House, please visit our website at www.gretchenshouse.com or contact Michele Davis at 734.761.2576 ext. 205.

I am an advanced speaker of Mandarin Chinese who is fluent in everyday language. I am now working on improving my vocabulary and ability to use more formal language. My goal is to be able to give lectures and conference presentations in idiomatically correct formal Chinese (wenyan). I am therefore looking for a native speaker of Chinese with whom I can meet for 4-5 hours/week to practice using new vocabulary, chengyu, and grammatical phrases, etc. Teaching experience is not necessary but I need someone who is able to correct my mistakes, illustrate how to use new vocabulary, etc. Since I will be providing my own teaching material and organize the structure of the weekly meetings no preparation time will be needed. Knowledge of Chinese history, culture, and classical literature would be a plus. My research interests are mostly in early Chinese history, philosophy and literature and will be interested in perfecting my command of the language used in scholarly articles on these topics written in Chinese.
